Mets @ Yankees: Subway Series set for double header
Mets @ Yankees MLB odds spreads and predictions
The New York Mets and New York Yankees will square off in a double header of their Subway Series on Tuesday.
The first Subway Series game of the season never got on track Monday night when the scheduled opener was postponed because of rain at Yankee Stadium.
The game was called about 30 minutes before it was supposed to start and will be made up Tuesday afternoon as part of a day-night double header. The day game is slated to begin at 1:05 p.m., with the nightcap at 7:05 p.m.
With four wins in five days, the New York Mets are riding some momentum into the Subway Series.
Noah Syndergaard allowed one hit over seven shutout innings, Todd Frazier homered and drove in four runs, and the Mets beat the Colorado Rockies 6-1 on Sunday for their 13th victory in 16 home games.
Syndergaard struck out seven and walked two for his first win in five starts since May 14.
The Mets homered in 16 straight home games, setting a club record.
When is it? Tuesday June 11th
What time is first pitch? 1:05 p.m. and 7:05 p.m. ET
Where is it being played? Yankee Stadium
Which channel is it on? SNY/YES
The Yankees are coming off a big win on Sunday afternoon.
Aaron Hicks delivered an RBI double with two outs in the 10th inning as the Yankees overcame stunning errors in the ninth by stars Aroldis Chapman and Gregorius and avoided a sweep with a 7-6 win over the Cleveland Indians on Sunday.
Hicks' shot to the wall in left-center off Oliver Perez (1-1) scored Cameron Maybin, who had doubled with one out.
Mets @ Yankees Run Line
The New York Yankees are giving the Mets 1.5 runs in both baseball games.
I believe the Yankees will rally behind Masahiro Tanaka in Game 1 of this double header. So, if you're looking to bet the first game of this Subway Series, take the Yankees.
In the second game, I believe Jason Vargas will lead the Mets on the mound.
He pitched his first shutout in two years on Wednesday night against the San Francisco Giants. Vargas struck out a season-high eight batters and threw 117 pitches. He has a 1.85 ERA in his last seven starts, but he's 0-7 with a 6.84 ERA against the Yankees in his career.
Mets @ Yankees Over/Under
The over/under in this matchup is set at 9.5 total runs in both games.
My final score prediction for Game 1: New York Yankees 6, New York Mets 4.
Take the over in the first matchup.
My final score prediction for Game 2: New York Mets 5, New York Yankees 2.
And roll with the under in the second baseball game.
Where the game will be won or lost
Zack Wheeler (5-3) will start the opener Tuesday for the Mets against Masahiro Tanaka in the first of four matchups this year between the crosstown rivals.
Tanaka sports a 3-5 record with a 3.42 ERA this year.
Jason Vargas goes in the nightcap versus fellow left-hander James Paxton (3-2) and the Yankees.
The Mets will send Vargas to the mound, who has a 2-3 record with a 3.57 ERA so far this season.
The Mets flip-flopped their scheduled pitchers; Vargas originally had been set for Monday night, with Wheeler going Tuesday. The Yankees simply stayed in rotation.
Both teams are off Wednesday.
