Where the game will be won or lost
The New York Mets will roll with ace Jacob deGrom in the rubber match of this series.
DeGrom, the reigning Cy Young award winner, has a 5-7 record with a 3.02 ERA this season. In his last start on July 19, deGrom allowed three hits and struck out 10 batters over seven innings pitched, but the Mets fell 1-0 at the hands of the San Francisco Giants.
Opposing deGrom will be Padres starting pitcher Eric Lauer.
Lauer also has a 5-7 record to go along with a 4.31 ERA this year. He allowed five runs on six hits and struck out seven batters over 4.2 innings of work in a 6-5 loss to the Chicago Cubs on July 19.
This will be a pitcher's duel between the two starters.
