Celtics vs Timberwolves: Irving to lead Celtics into Minnesota on Saturday night
Celtics vs Timberwolves NBA odds, spreads and predictions
When is it? Saturday December 1st
What time is tip off? 8:00 p.m. ET
Where is it being played? Target Center
Which channel is it on? NBATV
No more Jimmy Butler? It doesn't matter. The Timberwolves are on a roll.
The Timberwolves head into Saturday night on a four-game winning streak, which includes wins over the Brooklyn Nets, Chicago Bulls, Cleveland Cavaliers, and their latest victory a 128-89 beatdown of the San Antonio Spurs.
In their latest win against the Spurs, the Timberwolves were led by the newly acquired Robert Covington who finished with 21 points, which included four 3-pointers, and nine rebounds. Karl Anthony-Towns added 16 points, 11 rebounds and five assists, and Derrick Rose contributed 16 points off the bench for the Timberwolves.
The Timberwolves will look to keep trending in the right direction when they square off against the Boston Celtics on Saturday in Minnesota.
Twenty-two games into the 2018-19 regular season, the Boston Celtics have yet to find their identity.
The Celtics, who battled on Friday night against the Cleveland Cavaliers, last defeated the New Orleans Pelicans, 124-107, on Monday night in New Orleans.
Point guard Kyrie Irving finished with 26 points, 10 assists, five rebounds, and five steals, Al Horford and Jayson Tatum contributed 20 points each, and Marcus Morris added 19 points for the Celtics in the win.
Irving leads the Celtics in points, assists and steals, averaging 22 points, 6.4 assists, and 1.9 steals per game this season.
The surprise disappointment so far has been Gordon Hayward, who still may or may not be recovering from that serious leg injury he suffered in the first game of the regular season last year. Hayward is sixth on the Celtics averaging just 10.1 points per game.
If the Celtics want to contend for a spot in the NBA Finals this season, Boston will need better production from Hayward.
Celtics vs Timberwolves Spread
The Minnesota Timberwolves are giving the Celtics 2 points in this basketball game.
I'm going to take the road Boston Celtics here. Yes, I know Boston will be playing the second game of a back-to-back when they travel to Minnesota on Saturday night, however, I think the Celtics have enough depth and talent to head into Minnesota and ultimately come away with the victory.
Take the Celtics and the points in this matchup.
Celtics vs Timberwolves Over/Under
The over/under for total points is set at 212.5 in this one.
My final score prediction: Boston Celtics 111, Minnesota Timberwolves 107.
Take the over in this contest. There are a ton of scorers in this basketball game on both teams, so I expect it to be a fairly high-scoring game.
Where the game will be won or lost
This game is going to come down to depth.
On one hand, the Boston Celtics are loaded with it, however, on the other hand, the Minnesota Timberwolves are not.
Not only can the Celtics rely on Irving, Hayward, Tatum and Horford, but they have solid options in Jaylen Brown, Terry Rozier and Marcus Smart, three players who are key off the bench for Boston.
Brown is averaging 11.1 points per game, Rozier is contributing 8.2 points per game, and Smart is chipping in 6.4 points for the Celtics this season.
For the Timberwolves, outside of their main core of Anthony-Towns, Wiggins, Rose, and now Covington, there isn't much Minnesota can rely on.
Look for depth to play a key part in this matchup.
