What is going on with the Houston Rockets this season?
The Rockets, a Western Conference finalist a season ago, are off to a terrible start in 2018-19.
Houston, who currently stands at 9-11 and is in fifth place in the Southwest Division, is on a four-game losing streak.
Luka Doncic finished with 20 points, six rebounds and two assists for the Dallas Mavericks in a 128-108 victory over the Rockets on Wednesday night.
Reigning MVP James Harden had a nice game as he racked up 25 points, 11 rebounds and 17 assists, and James Ennis III and Clint Capela added 18 points each for the Rockets, who are missing point guard Chris Paul, who is dealing with an injury.
If the Rockets want to regain some momentum and get back to the Western Conference finals this season, they will need Paul healthy and they will need to start trending in the right direction before it's too late.
With LeBron James now on the Los Angeles Lakers and a whole new cast of teams stepping up in the loaded West, the Rockets are no guarentee to even make the playoffs this season.
The Spurs, who shipped Kawhi Leonard to Toronto in the offseason, will now be without center Pau Gasol, who suffered a stress fracture in his left foot.
The Spurs have a 10-11 record and they are in fourth place in the Southwest Division, behind the Memphis Grizzlies, Dallas Mavericks, and New Orleans Pelicans, respectively.
Karl Anthony-Towns had 16 points, 11 rebounds and five assists for the Minnesota Timberwolves in a 128-89 victory over the San Antonio Spurs on Wednesday night in Minneapolis.
LaMarcus Aldridge had 10 points and nine rebounds, and DeMar DeRozan had 10 points, two rebounds and two assists for the Spurs in the loss.
The Spurs have consistently made the playoffs year in and year out for the duration of the Gregg Popovich era, but it looks like a playoff berth may be in jeopardy this season. However, with all of that said, I wouldn't count them out just yet.
Rockets vs Spurs Spread
The Rockets and Spurs are an even matchup on Friday night.
So simply put: Just pick a winner.
I'm going to roll with the home team in this basketball game. Take the San Antonio Spurs to win this game.
Rockets vs Spurs Over/Under
The over/under in this basketball game is set at 217 total points.
My final score prediction: San Antonio Spurs 112, Houston Rockets 108.
Take the over in this matchup.
Where the game will be won or lost
This basketball game is going to come down to which team's star players will perform at an elite level.
And both squads have the performers to do so.
The Spurs will be anchored by LaMarcus Aldridge and DeMar DeRozan, since Pau Gasol is out indefinitely, and the Rockets will rely on James Harden and Clint Capela, since point guard Chris Paul is out with an injury.
There's no doubt in my mind that this game will come down to each team's star power.
And in a critical early-season Western Conference showdown, both teams are in major need of a big win on Friday night.
