Rockets vs Warriors: Harden leads Houston into Golden State
Rockets vs Warriors NBA odds spreads and predictions
When is it? Thursday January 3rd
What time is tip off? 10:30 p.m. ET
Where is it being played? Oracle Arena
Which channel is it on? TNT
The Houston Rockets will travel to Oracle Arena to square off against the Golden State Warriors in a key Western Conference matchup on Thursday night.
Houston's James Harden, the reigning NBA MVP, is rolling. Golden State, on the other hand, is still trying to get back to its best basketball.
It should be a fantastic game Thursday night when the Rockets and Warriors square off at Oracle Arena.
Harden will bring his historic streak of high-scoring games into Golden State, as the Warriors will try and limit him the same way they did when they met in the Western Conference Finals last year, a series won in seven games by the Warriors.
Harden is the league's leading scorer, and he will be seeking a ninth straight game with 35 or more points. That feat has been accomplished just three times since the NBA/ABA merger in 1976.
Harden will try to match LeBron James' nine-game run in 2006 as the third-longest since 1976.
The Warriors, on the other hand, find themselves in second place in the Western Conference; the same spot in which they finished last season.
Golden State is currently on a two-game winning streak, both wins came on the road, and after consecutive losses at home to the Los Angeles Lakers and Portland Trail Blazers.
The Warriors didn't lose their 13th game last season until Feb. 6. They already have 13 losses this season.
Some of Golden State's problems this season are because of injuries to Stephen Curry and Draymond Green.
Both Curry and Green each have missed almost one-third of the season, and center DeMarcus Cousins has yet to return as he continues to rehab from an achilles surgery.
Rockets vs Warriors Spread
The Golden State Warriors are giving the Rockets 8 points in this matchup.
I'm going to take Houston and the 8 points in this basketball game. I believe Harden and company will continue to roll at Oracle Arena.
Harden is once again making a case for league MVP, and I think it will continue on Thursday night.
Not 100 percent sure if the Rockets are going to win this game, however, I believe they will cover the 8-point spread.
Rockets vs Warriors Over/Under
The over/under in this one is set at 226 total points.
My final score prediction: Golden State Warriors 118, Houston Rockets 114.
Roll with the over in this matchup.
Where the game will be won or lost
The Rockets (21-15) have won five straight and 10 of 11 since a 11-14 record on Dec. 8.
Less than a month later, they have rebounded to the top of the Southwest Division and they are within 3.5 games of the top spot in the Western Conference.
Curry was out of action, and Green was injured, when the Rockets came away with a 107-86 victory over the Warriors back in November. Harden finished with 27 points in the win, but the Warriors actually held him to 8-for-23 shooting from the field.
Cousins is expected to return later this month, but as of right now the Warriors are healthier than they have been all season.
Houston, on the other hand, will be without Chris Paul who is dealing with a hamstring issue, and Eric Gordon won't play due to a knee injury. The Rockets will rely heavily on Harden if they want to leave Oracle Arena with a victory.
