Sharks @ Blues: San Jose travels to St. Louis hoping to force Game 7
Sharks @ Blues NHL odds, spreads and predictions
The St. Louis Blues look to reach the Stanley Cup Finals for the first time since 1970.
The St. Louis Blues moved one step closer to their first Stanley Cup final in nearly a half-century with a dominant 5-0 Game 5 road win.
Jaden Schwartz put on a clinic as he totaled a hat-trick for his 10th, 11th, and 12th goals of the playoffs. Schwartz scored unassisted, on the power play, and put the icing on the cake with a late third-period goal assisted by Vladimir Tarasenko.
Tarasenko also added another assist and an unassisted goal, while Oskar Sundqvist put St. Louis on the board first with a goal six minutes into the action.
Jordan Bennington was stellar in goal for the Blues coming up with 21 saves for his first clean sheet of the postseason.
When is it? Thursday May 21st
What time is face off? 8:00 p.m. ET
Where is it being played? Enterprise Center
Which channel is it on? NBCSN
The San Jose Sharks were outmatched and outplayed from start to finish on Sunday night.
San Jose was held scoreless for just the third time this postseason as they were out shot by nearly twice their attempts; St. Louis had 40 shots while San Jose had 21.
The Sharks' frustrations were apparent in Game 5 as the team committed nine penalties for 36 penalty minutes compared to Blues' nine penalty minutes.
Sharks @ Blues Puckline
The puckline in this one is set at St. Louis Blues minus 1.5 goals.
The Blues' defense has begun to take precedent in this series as they've held the Sharks to just one goal over the last two games.
Scoring will be key for San Jose to stay alive in Game 6. The Sharks scored five and six goals during their two wins this series.
However, after seeing the frustration from San Jose during their shutout loss, I'm not sure if the Sharks will have enough left in the tank to win outright in St. Louis.
Anticipate Game 6 playing out like Game 5 in St. Louis; the result will be close, but the Blues will find a way to win.
Take the Sharks with 1.5 goals to keep this game close.
Sharks @ Blues Over/Under
The over/under in this hockey game is set at 5.5 goals.
My final score prediction: San Jose Sharks 2, St. Louis Blues 3
Take the under in this matchup.
Where the game will be won or lost
As I mentioned above, the key for San Jose will be finding a way to score early and often.
The Sharks are 7-1 this postseason when scoring first. More importantly, Logan Couture must get himself involved; Couture has 14 goals during the postseason, but has attempted just four shots over the last two games.
St. Louis, on the other hand, has to continue playing towards their strength of defense. The Blues have held San Jose to two goals or fewer in each of their wins this series.
If Bennington can continue his dominant play in goal, St. Louis should be set for a trip to the Stanley Cup.
