Bruins @ Hurricanes: Boston travels to Carolina seeking commanding lead

Bruins @ Hurricanes NHL odds, spreads and predictions

Boston leads the series 2-0 after consecutive home blowout wins.

The Boston Bruins followed up a 5-2 Game 1 win with an even more impressive 6-2 victory over the Carolina Hurricanes in Game 2.

Defenseman Matt Grzelcyk put together his first career multi-goal game scoring the Bruins; first goal, and one of Boston's two power play goals.

Fellow defensemen Connor Clifton and Torey Craig also had big games; Clifton scored his playoff goal to begin the second period, while Craig assisted on three of six goals.

Boston lead 6-0 in the third period before Carolina could even smell the back of the net. Most of that was credited to yet another offensive outburst, however, not to go under the radar was the play of Tuukka Rask in goal. Rask held off the Hurricanes with 21 saves.

The lowdown

The Carolina Hurricanes have had a rough start to the East Finals despite sweeping the New York Islanders in the semis, and knocking out the defending Stanley Cup champion Washington Capitals in the first round.

Game 2 has to be thrown out the window for Carolina, who clearly didn't respond well after allowing a 2-1 third-period lead slip away in a discouraging Game 1 loss.

The Hurricanes' only bright spot came near the end of the third period when they snuck two goals past the stellar goalkeeping of Rask. Justin Williams scored his fourth postseason goal while Teuvo Teravainen went unassisted and found the back of the net for the seventh time of the playoffs.

Carolina will now head home where they have yet to lose in the postseason (5-0).

Bruins @ Hurricanes Spread

Carolina is giving Boston 1.5 points in this matchup.

The Hurricanes being unbeaten at home this postseason will give them the significant advantage in Game 3.

However, that advantage becomes less significant if they can't stop the Bruins offense.

I anticipate Carolina coming out of the gates strong as they did in Game 1; yet, I'm hesitant to believe that they'll have enough juice to close this game out down the stretch.

Take the Boston with the points, and I'd even sprinkle some on the moneyline.

Bruins @ Hurricanes Moneyline

Think the Boston will pull the road upset? Betting $90 could win profit of $100.

Like Carolina to bounce back with a home win? Spending $110 would win $100 profit.

Bruins @ Hurricanes Over/Under

The over/under for this matchup is set at 5.5 points.

Final score prediction: Boston Bruins 4, Carolina Hurricanes 3

Take the over in this game.

Where the game will be won or lost

Boston's offense, or lack thereof, will dictate Game 3.

Carolina needs to tighten up defensively, especially on the penalty kill. In Bruins' 14 penalty minutes this series, the Hurricanes have allowed four goals.

The Bruins, on the other hand, won't have change all that much from their game plan in Game 2. If Boston can incorporate their defensemen within their attack again, they'll be set for another win in Game 3 especially with Patrice Bergeron and Brad Marchand leading the front line.
